Custom Cattle Feeding Programs

Custom Cattle Feeding

The custom cattle feeding business has become very competitive in the last several years. Christensen Cattle serves its customers by staying competitive.

Our lots are in the middle of corn and hay country with several ethanol plants nearby and distillers' grain readily available. High moisture corn, dry corn, distillers' grain, alfalfa hay, bean and cornstalk bales--along with our liquid proteins and automated micro-machines--are main ingredients for our health and nutrition programs.

A monthly visit from our nutritionist and a weekly consultation with a licensed vetrinarian keeps our doctoring crew, feeders, and management up to date on new ideas and on top of any problems that may come up.

Both feedlots are within 100 miles of all major packing houses, keeping trucking expense to a minimum: Swift in Grand Island, Cargill in Schuyler, and Tyson in Lexington. Other outlets, such as Greater Omaha, Nebraska Beef, and Tyson in Dakota City, are all within 125 miles.

Our basic billing information includes a yardage charge, small markup on feed ingredients, processing charges (cost + 15%) and doctoring charge (cost + 25%). Custom cattle producers also have the option of grain banking any grain that they may raise and deliver to the feedlot. A customer finance line is also available through our bank that makes financing easy with a minimal amount of paperwork.
